The go-to-man for down to earth property advice
Six years ago, Matthew left his career in the hospitality sector to re-invent himself as a real estate agent. Since then he has worked very hard to develop his own personal brand as part of Alliance and has become very well known as the go-to-man for down to earth property advice.
Based at the Alliance branch in San Gwann, Matthew works mainly in central areas around San Gwann itself, Sliema, Gzira and Msida, as well as the villages of Balzan, Attard, Lija and iklin and Malta’s largest city Birkirkara.
Matthew began his working life as a bar tender in Paceville, but he didn’t sit around waiting for things to happen by themselves. He worked his way up the ladder, building an excellent network of valuable contacts that also led him to eventually start organising very successful parties and events in Paceville and elsewhere. “When I moved into real estate, I capitalized on my people skills and network of contacts to get started, and that got me quite a long way”, he recalls proudly.
Aged 31 and happily single, living in Santa Lucia, Matthew invests a lot of his free time in improving his fitness and playing or watching football. He also enjoys travelling, although like everyone else, he’s had to put that on hold for now. He sticks to his gym routine religiously and is keen to catch up with his football mates for a casual soccer match whenever possible. In his younger days, he played for Santa Lucia F.C. and Sliema Wanderers F.C., but now his main football pitch is the one he can switch on and off at any time on his Playstation at home.
When asked about his most memorable sale, unlike other agents who often celebrate the buyers, Matthew immediately recalls an elderly Maltese-Canadian couple who had approached him to sell their house. “It had been on the market for several months and other agents weren’t giving them proper support and feedback to guide them through the selling process”, he continues. Matthew recounts how came clean with them, telling them truths that they were not so keen to hear and guiding them to take the right decisions at the right time. They followed his advice and sure enough, they soon accepted an offer on the house that they were worrying would never sell. They were so elated that they could finally re-unite with their children back in Canada, that they both got very emotional at the signing of the konvenju (promise of sale). “This is what I appreciate most about my job – improving people’s lives, by helping them make their dreams come true”, he concludes.
Matthew’s best advice to owners looking to sell their property, is to hire an experienced property advisor who knows their property and its value, and then trust him or her to do their job. To buyers, Matthew’s advice is “The only bad time to buy property is later”, and this holds true as all good real estate investments always return an attractive profit in the long run, so the sooner that run begins, the better the results will be in the end.
